- The state contractor test is an open book examination.
- The only thing you are allowed to bring into the testing area
is the course manual.
- Calculators are provided on site, but you may bring your own
calculator so long as it is a basic handheld calculator (no
keyboards, no programmable features, silent, self-powered, does
not print paper, etc.).
- Talking, passing notes, or signaling to other testers is prohibited.
- You may not leave the test area once the test begins, so prepare
ahead of time to spend the full two hours on site!
- The state test is a multiple-choice examination with four choices
per question.
- The test has 80 questions, and you have a maximum of two hours
to complete it.

- The test is conducted on a computer.
- Some questions require mathematical computation, but a calculator
should not be required to answer the question successfully (but
calculators are optional).
- Test questions are written to provide only one BEST answer and
are NOT written as trick questions.
- A well prepared candidate will be able to pick the best answer,
however, an unprepared candidate will have difficulty guessing
because each answer will seem reasonable.
- All examination questions should be answered.
- Ample time is provided to answer all examination questions,
so be sure to read each question and its four choices completely
and carefully before selecting the BEST possible answer to the
question.
- Find a quiet place to study, away from interruptions and distractions.
- Allocate time and study the course material.
- At the end of each chapter take our online practice test for
the chapter you just completed.
- Review your practice test results: review and re-take the practice
test if necessary.
- If you are having difficulty, email or call your CSO instructor
for assistance.
- After completing the home study material re-take the online
practice test for each chapter.
- Re-study and re-take the online practice test for the chapters
you were weak in.
- Most successful students report having spent more than 16 hours
studying.
